To Adjust Mouse Click Speed

It can sometimes be difficult to double-click the mouse button; you can adjust it on your own computer to make it easier to use:

  • Click once on the Start button at the far left of the Task bar at the bottom of your screen.
  • Click once on Control Panel.  This is where you can adjust the various hardware connected to your computer such as printers, keyboard and mouse.
  • Click on Printers & Other Hardware, then click on Mouse.
  • Various tabs should appear to control your mouse settings, click on Buttons.
  • Double-click Speed lets you test and adjust the required speed needed to activate the double-click; experiment with the little folder or Jack-in-the-box until you can activate it comfortably.
  • Click Apply to make the new setting active, Ok to make it active and close the tabs, or Cancel or "X" to exit without making changes.

Tip: You can also use this feature to "switch" the activating button of your mouse from left to right, if you are a left handed user.  If right-handed people also use your computer, remember to let them know you've made this change!

Tip:  if you sometimes have trouble actually seeing where the mouse pointer is on your screen, click on the Pointer Options tab and experiment with the various options like mouse speed or mouse trails to make it easier to find the mouse pointer.

Control Panel - newer versions of Windows such as Windows XP also offer Accessibility Options under Control Panel which are well worth investigating to make your own computer easier for you to use!
